How to Watch AR Porn on Quest 3: Setup Guide
Most AR porn setup guides skip the parts that trip first-time users up. Meta's developer account flow has a 15-minute verification hold nobody warns you about. Quest's room scan needs better lighting than the default. And the first time you launch an AR scene you'll almost certainly need to nudge the scene's position by a meter or two before it feels like the actor is in your space. This guide walks through every step in the order you'll hit them, with notes on the things that usually go sideways.

What you'll need before starting
- Meta Quest 3 (or Quest 3S — same workflow, slightly lower passthrough quality).
- A computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux) OR an Android phone with USB-C OTG.
- A USB-C cable rated for data (not charge-only — most Quest cables work, most random cables don't).
- A Meta account in good standing.
- ~30 minutes uninterrupted.
That's the full list. No extra hardware, no expensive accessories, no PC requirements beyond being able to run SideQuest.
Step 1: Enable Meta developer mode
This step has the longest waiting period, so start it first.
- Go to developer.meta.com in a browser. Sign in with your Meta account.
- Click "Create Organization." Pick any name — it doesn't need to be a real business. "Personal" or "MyAR" or your initials is fine. Select "Personal" type if asked.
- Wait for verification. Meta requires you to verify either via credit card on file or phone number. If your account is brand new, this can take up to 15 minutes. Some users get instant approval; some wait the full window. Sony, Apple, and Meta all do this — it's normal.
- Open the Meta Horizon app on your phone (or the Quest mobile app). Tap your headset → "Headset Settings" → "Developer Mode" → toggle ON.
- Reboot the headset for the change to take effect.
Step 2: Install SideQuest
SideQuest is the bridge tool that lets you push APKs from your computer onto the headset. Free, open-source, runs on Windows, Mac, Linux. Download from sidequestvr.com.
Install, launch, then plug your headset into your computer via USB-C. The first time you connect, the headset will ask "Allow USB Debugging?" — say yes, and check "Always allow from this computer" so you don't get prompted every time.
SideQuest's top bar should show your headset's name with a green dot. If it's red, the cable is charge-only — try a different USB-C cable. If it stays red, your headset isn't in developer mode yet (Step 1).
Step 3: Sideload Heresphere

Once you have the APK file on your computer:
- Open SideQuest with the headset connected.
- Drag the Heresphere APK file into SideQuest's window — or use the "Install APK File" button in the top right.
- SideQuest shows an install progress bar. Wait 30 seconds.
- The app now lives in your headset under Library → Unknown Sources.
DeoVR's setup is identical — same steps, different APK. Both players are worth installing if you have space.
Step 4: Do a good room scan
Quest 3 uses your room geometry to anchor AR content. If your room scan is bad, scenes float in space, fall through walls, or appear scaled wrong. Most guides skip this — don't.
Quest's room setup is in Settings → Physical Space → Set Up Boundary. The headset wants to scan an area at least 2m × 2m. Two things make scans dramatically better:
- Bright, even lighting. The passthrough cameras can't see well in dim rooms. Turn on every light you have during the scan. You can dim them for actual viewing.
- Walk a deliberate scan pattern. Don't just spin in place. Walk a slow rectangle around the room with your head turning side-to-side. Look at floor, walls, ceiling.
Step 5: Your first passthrough scene
Open Heresphere. The browse menu shows "Online" and "Local" tabs. Online lets you browse compatible sites directly:
- Tap Online → type or paste passthroughtube.com.
- Browse passthrough scenes in the in-headset browser.
- Pick a scene tagged as passthrough or AR. Tap the scene's headset icon.
- Heresphere loads the scene with passthrough overlay enabled.
- Use the right-controller trigger to drag the scene's anchor — move it to wherever in your room you want the actor to appear. Lock it with a button press; the player remembers the position next time you watch the same scene.
Settings tweaks most guides skip
1. Passthrough brightness
Heresphere lets you adjust the passthrough camera's apparent brightness independently from the scene brightness. If your room is darker than the scene, the contrast feels wrong. Bump passthrough brightness up by 15–20%.
2. Scene scale
Some AR scenes ship with a slightly-off default scale. If actors feel too small or too large for the room, Heresphere has a per-scene scale slider — 0.9–1.1× usually fixes it.
3. Anchor depth
Default anchor is 1.5m from the viewer. Most scenes feel best at 1.2–1.8m. Try 1.3m for intimate scenes, 1.8m for wider production shots. Heresphere remembers your choice per scene.
4. Refresh rate
Set Quest's refresh rate to 90Hz manually (not Auto). The Auto mode sometimes downshifts to 72Hz when battery drops below 30%, which is visibly worse in passthrough.
Common first-time problems
The scene file doesn't have passthrough metadata. Not every scene tagged as "AR" actually ships with passthrough. Try a different scene from our passthrough-verified library.
Your room scan is incomplete. Re-do Step 4 with better lighting and a slower walk pattern.
Room lighting is too dim. Quest 3's passthrough cameras boost gain in low light, which introduces noise and shifts color. Add a warm bulb behind you.
On the headset, take off and put back on — there's a USB authorization prompt that often appears in your physical environment. Or revoke USB auth in Settings and re-pair.
